Overview of talk:
The inappropriate or excessive use of artificial light – known as light pollution – can have serious environmental consequences for humans, wildlife, and our climate. The glow of uncontrolled light not only hides our view of the stars, it can have negative and deadly effects on many creatures including amphibians, birds, mammals, insect and plants and even human health.
Join our expert speakers from the Missouri Chapter of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA Missouri) who will discuss questions such as what is light pollution, what are the harmful effects of misdirected light and what steps can be taken by the public, educators and government officials to preserve our heritage.
The 60-minute program will include an introductory panel discussion followed by a Q&A period where panelists will respond to questions from attendees.
